Is Revlon a Cruelty-Free Company?

Revlon is a global cosmetics company best known for its Revlon and Elizabeth Arden makeup lines. Revlon sells makeup, haircare, and fragrance through 15 different brands sold in 150 different countries worldwide.
The term “cruelty-free” is not regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration, nor is there a formal legal definition for the term. It is widely understand that a “cruelty-free” product is a cosmetic product that has not been tested on animals. While many cosmetic companies claim their products are “cruelty-free,” the truth is many cosmetic products are actually tested on animals.
The Revlon website states the company has not conducted testing on animals for decades. However, Revlon concedes that the “regulatory authorities in some countries conduct independent testing in order to satisfy their own mandatory registration requirements” and that Revlon “complies with the requirements for safety in all of these countries.”
Revlon in China
Revlon sells cosmetic products in China where animal testing on cosmetics is required by law. Chinese law requires animal testing for all cosmetics sold in China but manufactured outside of China. There are some reports that China may be lifting some of these animal testing requirements, however there has been no official change in Chinese law at this time.
The Verdict: Revlon is NOT cruelty-free.
