Is Bioderma a Cruelty-Free Company?

The term “cruelty-free” refers to any cosmetic company that does not conduct animal testing on its products. The term “cruelty-free” is not legally defined and the accuracy of labeling a product “cruelty-free” is not regulated by the US government. As a result, many cosmetic companies claim their products are cruelty-free when the truth is their products or product ingredients have been tested on animals.
Bioderma is a pioneering skincare company dedicated to creating effective skincare products using the latest in scientific research and technology. Bioderma prides itself on creating products with fewer ingredients with maximum results. Bioderma products are sold in over 50 countries worldwide.
Bioderma’s US website does not provide any express statement on the company’s animal testing policies. In addition, Bioderma’s parent company Naos does not state explicitly what the company’s animal testing policy is. Naos is based in France, where animal testing for cosmetics is still considered standard practice.
Bioderma in China
In addition, Bioderma sells cosmetic products in China. Chinese law requires animal testing for all cosmetics sold in China but manufactured outside of China. While there are some reports that China may be lifting some of these animal testing requirements, there has been no official change in Chinese law at this time.
The Verdict: Bioderma is NOT cruelty-free.
